Randall W. Franz, MD
Vascular Surgeon
Randall W. Franz, MD is a dual board-certified and fellowship-trained vascular surgeon. For sixteen years, he served as the Chief and Medical Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at OhioHealth- Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. In 2020, he was recruited to become the System Chief and Medical Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of the five adult hospitals of Methodist LeBonheur Healthcare in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dr. Franz is a member of numerous professional organizations including the following: Chairman of the International College of Angiology (Fellow), American Venous Forum, Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, American College of Surgeons (Fellow), Society of Vascular Surgery, Society of Vascular Ultrasound, American Vein and Lymphatic Society, and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Society. He has held over 50 leadership positions, participated in over 15 medical trials, and serves on an advisory board relating to Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. He has served as an assistant professor of surgery for Northeastern Ohio School of Medicine, an associate professor of surgery for the Ohio State University School of Medicine, and a professor of surgery for the Ohio University School of Medicine. Dr. Franz has been awarded Who’s Who, Leading Physician of the World, Top Doctor, #1 in the nation for quality and medical excellence by CareChex and Patient Satisfaction in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery.
Dr. Franz’s areas of expertise and research include abdominal aortic aneurysm, thoracic aortic aneurysm, treatment of carotid artery disease, varicose vein and vein ablation, limb salvage, peripheral vascular disease, vascular research and trauma, endograft aneurysm repair, and angioplasty – stent and laser, and stem cell therapy for limb salvage. His work has been published in the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Vascular Surgery, Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, International Journal of Angiology, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Vascular, and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). Dr. Franz has presented his research over 50 times and in over ten national and international cities including Paris, Vienna, Tokyo, and New York.
Dr. Franz earned his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. Continuing his education at Wright State University, Dr. Franz completed his residency in General Surgery followed by a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at North Shore/Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New York. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Dawn, a former school administrator. He has two adult sons, Evan and Austin, who both work in the technology industry.
